The Dad's Den is a great opportunity for Dad's to be involved, meet other dads, and have fun being a role-model for the kids.
The basic things that we do as an organization are to help out the school and the kids. They include:
- working the carpool lanes a few weeks each school year when the safety patrol cannot or by special request
- moving and unpacking the large boxes of school supplies before the 1st day of school
- helping to set up and supervising bounce houses during the ice cream social, fall picnic, or spring picnic
- helping do safety checks on bikes and supervising the obstacle course during the bike rodeo
- other "set-up," moving, supervising jobs as requested by the school or PTA
- performing at the Holiday Assembly right before Winter break -- what we're really known for
For the last several years, the Dads Dan has had an annual tradition of performing holiday and/or Aldridge-themed songs as a choir on the Friday before the winter break. Additionally, in recent years, the Dads Den choir has spawned an orchestra/band to support this performance.
If you play an instrument, we welcome you to join the orchestra/band. If not, we invite you to come sing with the choir. No musical talent is required (although there is some to be found in this group).
The orchestra/band is open to all Dads in the den. All playing levels and all instruments are welcome to join. Obviously, we have to maintain some structure to avoid having six drummers or ten saxes at the performance. We generally do this by having sub-team determine a song list and a basic arrangement around the instruments we have to work with. Current needs include depth on guitar/bass, keyboards, singers, and horns. We are also always on the lookout for practice space (house, church, garage, warehouse, etc.) and someone to run sound. We could always use more cowbell!
